CLASS DESCRIPTIONS





Creative Dance: Ages 2 - 3. This 30 minute class combines an introduction to music, dance, rhythm, stretching, coordination, ballet basics, class structure, discipline, and creative thought. Utilizing rhythm instruments or dance props each class to assist in the learning and fun!


Pre-Ballet: Ages 4-5. Introducing classical ballet technique basics. Each class focuses on stretching, proper posture, feet positions, and alignment. Comprehensive ballet vocabulary is taught. Class structure and discipline are also implemented as musicality and creativity are emphasized.


Ballet .5: Ages 6-7. Fundamentals of classical ballet technique. Each class focuses on posture, body positions, and alignment while also building on ballet vocabulary. Class structure and discipline are also emphasized. Musicality and creativity are explored through improvisation. Watch your child’s confidence and appreciation for the art form grow as he or she masters new skills and makes new friends.


Ballet 1: Ages 7- 8. Structured ballet technique where each class focuses on proper posture, body positions, and alignment, while building on ballet vocabulary, musicality, and sequencing.


Ballet 2: Ages 9-12. This is a more formal ballet class adding classical elements of adagio, petite allegro, pirouettes, grand allegro, and advanced port de bras. Emphasizing the importance of form, musicality, and presence makes this class both challenging and rewarding. Previous experience is suggested for this level. Ballet ll students are required to take at least two classes per week to gain the proper strength and technical skills necessary to meet their full potential.


Ballet 3 & 4: Ages 12+. For more serious dancers progressing from Ballet II or III to continue their training. Emphasis is placed on technical proficiency as dancers learn how to properly execute ballet combinations and choreography both in the center and across the floor. Previous experience is necessary for admittance to this level.


Advanced Ballet: Age depends on experience. For experienced dancers of a technically demanding level. Preparation for professional training. Emphasis is placed on coordination, musicality, and technical proficiency. Adv. Ballet students are encouraged to take three to five technique classes per week to achieve optimal results in their advancement.


Pointe: Age depends on experience. For dancers with extensive ballet training. Emphasis is placed on technical proficiency. Students are encouraged to take two to five Ballet technique classes per week to achieve optimal results in their advancement.


Jazz 1: Ages 6-8. This class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality, and developing rhythms and patterns. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations.


Jazz 2: Ages 9-12. This faster class will continue to learn proper dance technique. Students will study various styles of jazz to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a warm-up, stretches, across-the-floor progressions, and center combinations.


Adv. Jazz: Ages Teen-Adult. This energetic class blends of several styles of dance: hip hop, popular dance, and jazz technique. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Class includes upper and lower body conditioning, video components, and a rigorous warm-up to prepare students for intense choreography.


Hip-Hop 1 & 2: Ages 6+. A high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements.


Tiny Tap: Ages 3-6. Designed to develop rhythm, style, and sound. Students will learn a variety of tap from Broadway to Rhythm.


Tap 1: Ages 6+. Exercises focus on building flexibility of the knee and ankles, coordination, style, and speed of movement.


Intermediate Lyrical: Ages 8+. This dance form, just like Contemporary, combines Ballet and Jazz. Classes include a modern warm-up, Jazz progressions, inversions, stretching, jumps, and turns all in a lyrical style.


Advanced Lyrical: Ages Teen - Adult. This fast-paced class combines Ballet and Jazz. Classes include some Ballet technique, Modern fundamentals, Jazz, inversions, and stretching.

The Dance Scene has two beautiful renovated Victorian dance studios. Studio A is 40’ x 27’ with over 110’ of ballet barres with a shock- absorbing sprung hardwood floor covered with a professional grade, thick, non-slip, Marley floor.


Studio B is 25' x 15' and is a warm and more intimate studio with Birch hardwood floors originally from the historic Carson Mansion’s pavilion that are covered with a professional grade, thick, non-slip, Marley floor





POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Monthly Tuition:

• Payment is due on or before the 1st class of each month, late payments are subject to a 10% late fee.

• The studio accepts Cash, Checks, and Credit Cards for payment.

• Tuition is non-refundable.

• Students will not be allowed to take class if their account is delinquent for more than 30 days.

Payment Options:

• CHECK: Checks can be mailed, given to boutique staff, or dropped in the tuition box. Please make note the dancer's name on the memo line. A $20 fee will be charged for all returned checks (NSF).

• CREDIT CARD: The studio can accept all major credit cards.

Attendance Policy:

• Attendance is a requirement for success. Failure to meet such requirements can lead to an adjustment in level.

• Guardians are responsible for communicating absences to the director or instructor directly.

• Any student who misses 3 consecutive weeks or more may be required to forfeit his or her class space.

• More than 3 absences between March 1st and the June Recital may result in removal from the class recital piece. Make-up Classes:

• Missed classes may be made up within 4 weeks, in an appropriate class of the student’s choice.

• There are no refunds nor can missed classes be applied to subsequent months’ tuition.

• Any sensitive or private conversations be held outside of classes and addressed to the director.

• All fees are due until the studio is notified of any class being dropped.

• All young children must be supervised. No running, yelling, nor rough playing at the dance studio.

• In order to maintain the privacy, and productivity of our students, no videos or photos may be taken during any classes.

• Family is welcome to observe class through the viewing window or curtain.

• It is recommended that students arrive early in order to be properly prepared for the demands of the dance class.

• Students who arrive more than 10 minutes late may be asked to observe class.

• Be prepared for class. Proper dress code is required for all dance classes.

• Hair must be pulled up.

• Use the bathroom prior to class.

• Be on time, but if late, ask permission to join class.

• Do not have frequent class absences.

• No cell phones in the studio.

• Be respectful and kind to instructors, peers, and staff.

• Do not talk during class unless you are asking a question..

• Be willing to try new dance material. Put positive energy into your dance class.

• No leaning, lounging, nor hanging on the ballet barres. No sitting in class.

• Clap at the end of class to thank the instructor.

• If injured, tell the instructor prior to class. Work slowly and carefully or observe.

• If ill, do not come to class.

• Prior to leaving the studio, remove dance shoes and cover-up dance clothes. It is important to control the cooling process to avoid injury.

• No gossip, obscene language, nor inappropriate conversations are tolerated during class or around the studio.

• No gum, food, nor drinks of any kind (except water) is allowed inside the studios.

• It is the dancer’s responsibility to manage his or her time so that dance, schoolwork, and other activities do not conflict.
